Texas bound

We left Alabama on Wednesday, Sept 24. Saying good-bye to family is never easy, but we knew we would see Kresten at the end of the road. Logan was amazed that we drove through Alabama, Mississippi, and Arkansas all in one day. We spent the night just outside Little Rock, Arkansas, then up again to another short day of driving to Edmond Oklahoma. It took awhile to find Kresten, but ran into Rachel Helton who finally led us to him. Logan was happy to see his brother. We have been staying with Ernest and Joyce Andreas...such a lovely couple. We've enjoyed a trip down memory lane as we talked about our mutual friends from Canada. We've enjoyed seeing old friends here at Oklahoma University. Sunday we will worship with Kresten, say more good-byes, and head for Ft. Worth, Texas. Mexico is getting closer and closer. I think all three of us are ready to get there...but we have enjoyed visiting with so many dear friends. Kresten says he is "melting" in the Oklahoma heat...it is pretty warm here!!! (But no complaining from me!!!)

Oklahoma bound

Trouble with starting our blog with such a "bang" is that is will be hard to "top" that first one...but here's what we've experienced this past week...

Garage Sale! Garage Sale! My sister, Bonnie, still has lots of Mother's things in her home and in her garage. We've been unpacking, rearranging, and pricing it all for the big sale. What a success!!! The two day sale brought in over $700...and it was mostly 50 cent items (I told you there was lots of "stuff"). We all went to one of our favourite seafood restaurants for crab claws and fried shrimp. Most of the rest went to Hannah and Nathan (my niece and her husband) to help with their expenses as they relocate from Birmingham Alabama to Philadelphia.

Sunday was a great day at Westgate Church of Christ. God is doing great things with this group of His people as they serve former prisoners who have entered the work release program. How wonderful to be among brothers and sisters who are responding to God's call. Everyone, it seems, is talking about the great ministry to which God has led them.

Logan's highlight from Alabama was going fishing with Mr. Wallace. Their 6 hour fishing trip produced about 20 little Brim. They kept about 7. Wallace gutted them and I fried them up the night before we left. Logan enjoyed catching them more than eating them. Mom enjoyed eating them...yum. Thanks Wallace!!! Good memories for Logan!!

Alabama Leg of the Journey

Hello from Alabama!!!
It's hot and muggy...and it feels great!!!
The three Krogsgaards spent nine days with Bern's dad and Ashley in Regina. We said good-bye to Rich and Sue as they headed to Zambia for another 4 month stretch. We were pleased to spend a few days with Wendy and Bill as they visited Dad for a week. (You don't think we got this blog site on our own, do you??...Thinks Mr. Bill!!!!) On Sept 11, we said good-bye as we boarded a plane heading toward Alabama. It was quite an EVENTFUL trip as we flew through the night. Thirty minutes before landing in Toronto (about 6 am) Bern was suddenly stricken with a case of nausea. He reached for his barf bag and laid his head back. I noticed his hands began to jerk. Seconds later I realized he was having some kind of seizure. It only lasted about 30 seconds, then he was "back with me", dazed, but coherent. I explained to him what had happened, then his eyes rolled back and he went limp...OK...this was NOT good. I yelled for a Dr. on the plane and hit the attendant button. Help was there in seconds. After about a minute and 1/2 Bern awoke. A nurse was able to take his vitals (very low blood pressure) and the attendant had hooked him up to oxygen. Thirty minutes later the plane was down and the paramedics were whisking Bernard off the plane in an upright sitting stretcher. Minutes later we were in a Toronto ER. They wasted no time hooking Bern to an EEG, taking blood and running a CAT scan. Three and 1/2 hours later the Dr. informed us that there was no damage...no reason for the attack, and concluded that the nausea had triggered a fainting attack. We were given permission to fly again...We had one hour before our flight left at 10:30 am. We grabbed a taxi back to the airport, ran to the WestJet counter. Opposition met us with every person to whom we spoke. "You can't possibly make that flight. You are in the domestic section, you have to pick up your stored bags, get to international, clear customs and immigration, and find your gate...It can't happen." Then our hero arrived on the scene. After realizing there were no more flights to Orlando until the next day, he put his hands on his hips and asked, "Do you REALLY want to make this flight???? We'll make it happen!" He barked out various orders to his workers and we ran for our luggage. We flew through customs, arrived at our gate and were greeted by the attendents wearing huge smiles saying, "We were waiting for you...welcome aboard." We buckled up, they closed the door and our plane lifted off on schedule!!!! SIGH!!!! We were three grateful travellers!!! Bernard slept like a baby. Logan and I kept our eyes on Bernard!!! Since his little episode, Bernard has had no problems. He feels well and is back to his fast-paced self. Oh...did I mention that Logan was throwing up every few hours from the time Bern got sick until we arrived at Bobby and JoAnne Deason's 1 1/2 hours outside of Orlando??? Guess my two boys got into something that just didn't agree with them. I'm hoping the rest of our journey will be a little less exciting!!!
Meanwhile, we are enjoying being with Bonnie, Tim and Seth. The boys spend the morning on their school work, then they enjoy playing lasar tag, jumping on the tramp...or other fun stuff to do around Seth's house. Bern has been busy trying to retitle Mother's car and get insurance. This is no easy feat here in Alabama. The rest of the time has been devoted to getting the loose ends of Mother's estate tied up.
The next leg of our journey will take us to Oklahoma where we will visit Kresten at Oklahoma Christian University. (Dad may have to help him with his Calculus!!!) We hope to visit some friends around the Ft. Worth, Texas area and take in a day at Let's Start Talking's Harvest Call. Our team is waiting for us in Lazaro Cardenas. We hope to be there the last week of September. We are very excited about the days, weeks, months ahead. We'll keep you posted as we journey.
Blessings,
Bernard, Alicia, and Logan
